Health Centre planning progress
Planning and preparation for the new Waimarino Rural Health Centre is underway. The unit will operate on a flexible basis, being open seven days per week 24 hours a day as required, but reverting to 8am-8pm weekdays when not busy. The proposed site for the unit, the former Golden Acre Hotel in Seddon Street, Raetihi, is at present being cleared by the former owner. Two final proposals and associated costings have been received and are undergoing evaluation by Good Health W anganui Ltd. As soon as one is selected a Land Use
Consent, required under the Resource Management Act, will be sought from the Ruapehu District Council. Application for a Building Consent required under the Building Act will also be actioned. The plan must also be lodged with the Hospitals Licensing Division of the Ministry of Health. Once the formal approvals have been given, construction is estimated to take three to four months to commence. Existing equipment such as beds, desks, lockers etc, have been identified for the new unit and are being repaired and refurbished where required.
