Boost for Christie playground plans

Ohakune' s Christie Park playground fund received a further boost with a recent $500 grant from the Hillary Commission, bringing the total funds for the project to $14,500. Co-ordinator Cathy Home said she was delighted with the windfall. The money is earmarked for safety matting and/or bark to be installed under and around play equipment. Further funds have been forthcoming from the Ruapehu District Council ($8000) and the Ohakune Hotel Charities Trust ($2000). An extensive range of equipment is on order from Wanganui 's Playground Centre, for a mid-August delivery. Two sets of eauiDment are on order, one set SDecifically

for pre-schoolers. Included in the junior play equipment is a scramble net, slide, crawl tunnel, abacus, steering wheel and swing. Play equipment catering for older children (up to teens) includes a flying fox, scaling wall, wave bars, rung tunnel, hand and foot climber, bannister slide, sway bridge, spiral climber, fireman's pole, and double wave slide. Additonal swings may be an option at a later date. Installation of the equipment will be a joint Ruapehu Lions, Health Watch and Plunket project.
