Raetihi Combined Bowling meet

At the recent Annual General Meeting of the Raetihi Combined Bowling Club the following officers were elected from a well-attended meeting: Diane Martin (president), Eric Pasquill (vice president), Cath Bowater (treasurer), Denise Pasquill (secretary), and Eric Pasquill, Leslie Todd, Laurie Birchall, Joce Craig (match committee). The club committee consists of all members present at the AGM. Laurie Birchall was elected as a Life Member, in recognition of all the work that he has done over the years for the Raetihi Mens Bowling Club, and now for the Raetihi Combined Bowling Club. The club benefitted from Laurie' s help and support and felt that this was a way to say Thank You for all his efforts. The president, Diane Martin, reported that the club has had a good year, with accounts showing a working profit. The season was good for the club last year with the tournaments well supported. Thanks was extended to the local organisations for their sponsorship and support in making those tournaments successful. The club had a number of new members last year, which was a great help. Mrs Martin added that she hoped this year would be equally as good for the Raetihi Combined Bowling Club. Credit for the state of the green went to the green keeper, for his time and effort.

The opening tournament for this season will be held on 15 October followed by a BBQ tea for the bowlers, supporters, friends and families. Twilight bowls will be held on Wednesday evenings throughout the season, with start time yet to be confirmed. The meeting ended with the presentation of certificates for the 1993/94 Championship. Results: Mixed doubles - lst, Joy McCoy and Colin Gill; 2nd, Diane Martin and John Dennison. Junior men: lst, Colin Gill; 2nd, John Dennison. Junior ladies: lst, Leslie Todd; 2nd, Ngaire Stewart. Most improved (ladies): Kate Siddells. Most improved (mens): Gill Lawrence.
