Funds for youth

Y oung people with burning ambitions to achieve excellence in academic, musical, artistic, vocational or sporting fields - but without adequate funds to do it - can apply for grants up to $1500 from the Mike Hansen Memorial Educational Foundation. The Foundation' s aim is to provide financial support to assist talented young people in achieving their ambitions. The grants will be for use over the ensuing 12 months, and will be made to applicants under the age of 25 years on 26 August, 1994. Chairman of the Foundation, Lloyd Love, said that since its inception, the Foundation' s grants have enabled many young men and women to fulfil their dreams. Examples of awardees include a disabled skier, a piano student, classical trumpeter, a deaf degree student, two physically -disabled varsity students (to get special transport and accommodation), a motocross rider, and numerous others. The Foundation was created by Rotary Clubs, the dental profession and by friends, to recognise the achievements of the late Mike Hansen, a former Palmerston North orthodontist. For application forms, contact your local Rotary Club or write to the Mike Hansen Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 1245, Palmerston North.
