Ruapehu appeal for Rwandan refugees
Ruapehu Mayor Garrick Workman is appealing to Ruapehu residents to give generously for the refugees of Rwanda. Mr Workman is coordinating an appeal for funds all this week, that will see donation boxes situated in all businesses in both Raetihi and Ohakune. The week-long appeal will culminate in a special collection taken at churches throughout the region this Sunday. Mr Workman said he hoped Waimarino people would "dig deep" for the refugees of the war in Rwanda, whose awful plight is growing worse by the day. Disease and starvation are the two major killers of the thousands of men, women and children arriving daily at the refugee camps. Funds are needed to buy emergency food supplies and also to pay. for the services of the hundreds of relief workers trying to alleviate the suffering.
