Local deerstalker on national body
The New Zealand Deerstalkers Association recently held their annual conference in Blenheim where local Turangi and Ohakune deerstalker, Graeme Brebner, was elected as one of three North Island members to the National Executive. Mr Brebner was nominated by the Waimarino Branch NZDA (Ohakune) where he has been an active member for the last 30 years, having served as branch president, secretary, range officer and committee member. The conference is an annual forum where individual branches throughout New Zealand can meet to discuss important issues such as national competitions, 1080 possum control
and land access to the high country. Graeme is particularly keen to lift the profile of the New Zealand Deerstalkers Associatin with local hunters and is planning to encourage those interested in hunting, photography and the outdoors in general, to join the association. Branches run trophy competitions, range shoots, photography evenings, and for the junior members - the HUNTS programme, or Hunter Training and Safety. Anyone interested can contact the Waimarino Branch NZDA, c/o R. Baylis, RD1, Owhango, or Brent Bishop, phone 385 4136. It is essential that new firearms licence holders join a club to further their
knowledge of safe firearms use and to obtain information about the animals they are likely to hunt from experiencd hunters. Graeme Brebner said he firmly believes that the NZDA can offer this assistance and encourages all new hunters to join their local branch.
