Water faults in National Park
Water supplies to National Park were disrupted last week, due to an electrical fault which stopped the supply valve from opening. A few weeks earlier the signalling equipment which alerts operators of faults failed, due to an electrical current surge. The problem was attributed to a lightening strike. A Ruapehu District Council works spokesper-
son said that, ordinarily the plant is very reliable, but being a gravity flow plant that uses electricity to operate the valves that control waterflow, any electrical faults therefore can upset the operation. The fault signalling equipment, if oper-
ating, would have alerted the operator to a fault he said, and it would normally be repaired before the reservoir drained out. All repairs have since been carried out and the fault signalling equipment has been replaced.
