Info Centre a winner
A recent information centre seminar in Greymouth turned out to be fortuitous for Ruapehu Information Centre supervisor Kate Bramwell, who returned with a brand new computer. Kate was delighted when her name was drawn over the names of dozens of others who participated in the ICNZ Visitor Information Network from 24-27 June. Information centre personnel including those from Whakapapa, Wanganui and the Rangitikei attended the weekend that concentrated on visitor statistics from around the country. The IBM-compatible computer came complete with a black and white laser printer and software. The total package is worth around $6,000. "If s a big asset for the centre", said Kate. "We had aimed to be computerised within the next 12 months, so now we're ahead of schedule." All that remains is for
Kate to receive a few 'driving lessons' from Ruapehu marketing manager Bruce Rollinson, before attending next month's computer
training course in Hamilton, for the full potential of the centre' s computer to be realised. Last month EFTPOS was installed in
teh Visitor Centre, providing a further payment option for those spending on accommodation and activities within the area.
