Victim group formed

The first management committee meeting of the Waimarino Victim Support Group is to be held Monday 1 1 July, following a successful annual general meeting held at the Waimarino Golf Club last week. Sixteen people attended the AGM where nominations were called for those prepared to form a management committee. Nine people including representatives of both Raetihi and Ohakune communities and police officials form the newly-created committee. The first tasks of the committee will be to identify both a co-ordinator and a list of volunteers to undertake the day to day tasks of this group. Once volunteers have undertaken the

necessary training the Waimarino will have a Victim Support Group which will be a valuable asset to the community. Victim support offers immediate support, or what is called 'crisis intervention' to those people in the community who have suffered as a result of a crime. Immediate support is offered to victims and their families, to limit the effect of their crisis and to quickly retum their lives to a desired degree of stability. Contacts Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer may contact Sergeant Bob Evans at the Ohakune Police Station, phone 385 855 1, or Bill TeKaru at Buck's Drapery.
