Waimarino golf champs

There was a disappointing turnout for the first round of the club championship qualifying rounds held on Saturday. Only 27 golfers made an effort to attempt to qualify for the four divisions. The next qualifying round is Sunday 10 July, starting 12.30pm. Members are reminded that they need two rounds to be considered for club championships. Sunday 's haggle for the Shakespeare Memorial was won by Andrew Condon with a nett 67. Following closely with 68 were Pat Goldfinch and Wayne Marsh. Fourth was B. Goldfinch. In the junior Bryce Flenry was best with 71, followed by Nancy Winter on

72. Steve Gray was third with 73 and Fred Bright fourth, with 74. Top qualifiers in each grade for the seniors were W. Marsh (77), P. and B. Goldfinch (80), and in the intermediates, A. Condon (80) and D. Windle (87). Junior winners were B. Henry with 91 and R. Martin on 97. Improvers: Steve Gray with 104, andF. Bright on 105. Sponsor of the day was Ruapehu Dipping Services. An invitation is extended to members to stay, have a meal andenjoy the finalising of the draw for the Anderson Cup at the second qualifying round on Sunday.
