Site preparations began last week for the shifting of the Rongomaraeroa Marae Wharenui in Waiouru. The Wharenui will be lifted on 30 July by 1000 hands of warriors, symbolising unity in numbers, said Marae chairman Des Ratima. The Wharenui will be launched in a direction with Tumatauenga, and will be
led to its new site by Bishop Vercoe, the Anglican bishop of Aotearoa. The pathway travelled by the Wharenui will be lined with warriors who will provide haka and waiata to assist those carrying the Wharenui. Pictured is Mr Ratima with helper Kevin Whiteman. Behind them is the new site for the Wharenui and Rongomaraeroa Marae.
