Raetihi lodge caters for families

People of the W aimarino may be forgiven for not realising the existence of Raetihi' s newest accommodation house, the Oak Lodge, in Ward Street. The sign showing its whereabouts was erected just last week, although the former nurses' hostel has been operating as a lodge since last year. Proprietor, Raetihi GP Jim Corbett, opted for the minimalist approach in an effort to keep it as low-key as possible. The lodge is promoted as budget family accommodation, catering for up to 16 people on a share twin basis. Cost is $20 per adult per night. Guests share lounge, bathroom and cooking facilities and are promised a stay in a warm, friendly atmosphere. The lodge has catered for a variety of groups and in- > dividuals to date, including Wanganui Hospital staff and youth groups. Resident manager Mark Monroe also offers guests the opportynity to indulge in some of the region's leisure activities.
