Raetihi park gets go-ahead
Winning Waimarino Mainstreet received the go-ahead to develop the area known as Makotuku Park on the Ohakune-Raetihi Road, at last week's Waimarino Community Board meeting. The committee in consultation with Raetihi Promotions Group, Raetihi Marae and Area Engineer Don Sattler put forward a proposal to beautify the existing pond at the entrance to Raetihi, by planting shrubs, installing a picnic area with table and erecting a safety fence adjoining the roadside. The proposal also included the erection of a sign calling attention to the amenity . The board heard that the pond in its present state is attracting bird life
including mallard, paradise duck and heron. Mainstreet co-
ordinator Sue Allomes told the meeting that the project
would reauire little capital outlay as it had already
attracted considerable local interest with offers of
voluntary labour to plant trees.
Mrs Allomes said the name 'Makotuku
Park' had been chosen for the interim
and suggested the local community
be asked to helo find a name
for the park at a later date.
