Ski radio stations merge

An agreement reached by the Directors of the radio stations Peak FM and Ski FM resulted in the Ski FM station not being on the air this winter, according to a Pak FM press release. The Ruapehu region and ski industry will be serviced entirely by the recently developed and improved transmission coverage of Peak FM - including new studios in Ohakune and a more powerful base transmitter providing better reception for Waiouru and a new transmitter site set up to cover the Taihape district. In conjunction with its established Taumarunui station Peak FM will now

provide commercial radio services throughout the Ruapehu district from north of Taumarunui to south of Taihape encompassing over 26,000 local residents plus the many thousands of skiers and visitors attracted by the Turoa and Whakapapa ski resorts and other winter activities. Spokesman, Ron Jeffares, said that with the merging of the interests of Ski FM for this year, and with decidedly promising prospects for an extensive ski season, that Peak FM will be able to develop further new programming and commercial ideas as well as generally improving the station' s year-rourftl broadcasting.
