Swimming baths revamp on the cards

Amenities at the Ohakune Swimming Baths are in line for a long-overdue revamp. Area engineer Don Sattler told the meeting that in its present state, bird life and animals occupy the changing sheds more often than people. The state of the inside of the changing sheds almost constitutes a health hazard, he said. Mr Sattler said the swimming baths were well patronised through the summer period but in their run-down condition caretakers faced an almost impossible task of keeping the amenities clean.

Chairman Colin Webb recommended that a sum of $6,000 be made available from the reserves fund for essential upgrading and maintenance of the changing rooms and office building. The board also moved to seal the parking area outside the baths. Mr Sattler said the edge of the seal is broken away and has been a continual maintenance problem for staff. He suggested that the exit from the bowling club be sealed in conjunction with the swimming baths parking area, with funding met by the reserves and subsidies roading funds.
