Waiouru accident concerns
By Michele Monaghan An accident at the bottom of the Ohakune Hill, four kilometres west of Waiouru onFriday-1 7 June, raised concerns from the driver of the vehicle. The ambulance attending the accident was from Taihape and only one ambulance officer attended the scene. "He had to ask for help from the fire people," said the driver the vehicle. "One of the girls had to (see to) her own head," she added.
Police from Taihape attended the accident. Fire services from both W aiouru and Ohakune were in attendance. The five occupants of the car were not seriously hurt in the accident even though the car lost control, spun, and hit the bank three times before crossing the road. "We're lucky to be alive," said the driver. Four of the occupants were admitted to Waiouru hospital and discharged the next day. The cause of the accident
is unknown although the driver reported problems with the turbo. The car had a flat tyre after the accident and it is not known if this happened prior to or during the accident. The car was a write-off.
