QSM honoured by RDC
Miss Gladys Goldfinch of Ohakune was guest of honour at a lunch given by the Ruapehu District Council in Taumarunui last Fri-
day. The occasion was arranged to mark the award of the Queen's Service Medal (QSM) to Miss Gold-
finch in this year's New Years Honours List. Attended by Ruapehu District Mayor Garrick Workman and a full coun-
cil, Miss Goldfinch was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a gift in the form of a book entitled 'Tongariro' - about the mountains and rivers of the Central Plateau. Mr Workman paid tribute to Miss Goldfinch' s commitment and dedication to the Waimarino community over many years and this sentiment was echoed by Councillor Bob Peck of Raetihi, and by Cr Ellen
Gould who spoke of th support and contributio] Miss Goldfinch had mad to the Ohakune Primar School and the children o the distijct. This was confirmei when, in her reply, Mis Goldfinch said she ha known the Mayor "since h was a little boy". She spoke briefly of som of her work since she set u] her legal and accounting practice in the Waimarint 57 years ago including th occasion when, because o her legal background, sh was appointed coroner af ter the Tangiwai tragedy ii 1953. She said she realised having had a father (Georg* Goldfinch) who had serve as a councillor for mam years, just then for the gooc work they were doing fo the Ruapehu district. Miss Goldfinch de scribed briefly the awart ceremony at Governmen House in Wellington anc expressed the hope that al those present might one daj have the opportunity of at tending and receiving ai award for themselves.
