Badminton victory

On Sunday 12 June at Palmerston North, the Wanganui Under-14 Badminton team consisting of local players Donna Cranston, Eileen Voon and Sarah Lind helped their team to victory in winning the Central Districts Finals. The team took out Hawkes Bay 16-0, "Manawatu 16-0 and Horo whenua 13-3. The scores were an indication of just how strong the team was.

The Wanganui Under-14 number two and three teams consisting of Tania Shields and Jenny Murdie were unplaced, but both girls showed how strong they were by putting points on the board and winning most of their games. The Under- 1 6 team consisting of Cathy Cranston also did well in coming second in the Central Districts, winning all their games only to go down to Manawata in the finals. Katrina Marsh in

the second team was unplaced. The next event is the Wanganui Open (Junior) 2 July. The $100 raffle is nearly all sold and will be drawn soon. Primary school badminton has got underway with over 30 children participating on a Sunday night from 6-7pm, at the college gym. For more information phone Jocelyn Cranston, 385 8581.
