Waiouru Playgroup has introduced an extra session to keep up with the demand of a full roll. The group now meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Waiouru community centre starting at 10.00am. New toys have been purchased with the help of a government grant as well as a donation from the dropin centre. Paints and more toys will be purchased next term. The Waiouru playgroup has a roll of 30, but that doesn't mean more mothers aren't welcome, says Monique Comey, an active participant in the group. The playgroup is monitored through the Rural Education Activities Programme (REAP). They provide assistance for the setting up of playgroups in rural areas. Christine O' Riley provided this help for Waiouru. Christine said there were only about 13 REAP programmes in New Zealand.
