Anne Mayhew of W aiouru no w has $ 1 00 worth of free polytechnic courses up her sleeve after winning a free course by returning a questionnaire askin£ what the W aiouru people might be interested in for Term Two at the learning institution. She is planning on using her winnings to complete a
basic computing course. She has already successfully completed a calligraphy course. "After doing the calligraphy I was hungry to do more," she said, "I got so much out if it." Anne said she thinks Waiouru is provided with a good service with all the courses available. "There is something for everyone this term." Marie Richards-Hodge, regional co-ordinator for the Wanganui Polytechnic, said most questionnaires of this type offered free dinners or something. 'That has no relevance at all, so I decided to offer the course." About 600 questionnaires were distributed around Waiouru and Marie said the retum was about 26 per cent which she said was a good retum rate. Courses available this term include Maori language for beginners, fundamentals of business maths, basic welding, leadlighting, various management courses and 'fresh start' (A ten week programme to introduce women to what's available in Waiouru.). There are many more courses available and interested people should contact Marie on 06387 6736.
