KCE sells power to prison
A deal sprung between King Country Energy and New Plymouth' s prison looks set to save the institution over 5% on its annual power bills. Months of negotiations between prison officials, KCE and Taranaki Energy, through whose lines the power passes, culminated in the delivery of the first power bill last week. KCE marketing supervisor Bruce Clow said the deal was the first of its kind in this country, and while the company had no other significant clients outside its supply area, talks with other New Plymouth power users were ensuing. At present a KCE representative is visiting the prison on a monthly basis to read the meter, until such time as the technology to read the meter by telephone is put in place.
