Balloons carry church message
It was amid an array of balloons which festooned the church entrance that excited children as they entered the St. Andrews Presbytrerian Church, Ohakune, recently. St. Andrews Church members released 40 coloured balloons recently after their morning service. Each balloon carried an invitation to attend their services, gave details about the congregation and the statement that "Christianity is still alive". Those who found a balloon are invited to return the self addressed and stamped letter provided. "The connection between the balloons and the bodily ascension of Christ may appear to be rather far fetched. However it does
have meaning. The doctorhistorian Luke, who wrote the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts, records eyewitness accounts of the Lord ascending to his FatherGod," said Dr Terry
Cowland, pastor of St Andrews Presbyterian Church. He said the return of Christ to his Father heralded the completion of his purpose of salvation for mankind.
