School friend up & gone
Friends of Room Nine, Ohakune Primary School, farewelled the oidblockat the endoflast term, before it was trucked away to becomean extensionto a wool shed. The room was home to many pupils and teachers over the years and is one of those places that could tell a thousand stories. Local resident Bruce Thompson tellsfust one when he recalls sitting on the steps and hearing of the outbreak of the Korean War. School principal Ellen Qoutd said the building was part of the original District High School. She said it was the classroom forup to 60 children at onestage, about 15 years ago, when Margaret Weir and Sue Murdie ran a shared class.
