Ruapehu rates up, down and the same!
Ruapehu's rate take will go up by $392,275 to $5,5895,518 if the council's 1994/95 draft annual plan remains in its present form. But the northern rural wards bear the brunt of the 5.92 per cent increase with Waimarino' s total rates actually dropping 0.27 per cent (down by $5103 to $ 1 ,92 1 ,596) and Waiouru' s increasing by 5.09 per cent (up by $7222 to $141 ,894). The Ohura ward is hardest hit, partly due to the massive rises in rural property valuations there, with a 24.27 per cent increase (up by $286, 1 24 to $ 1 , 1 79,036). National Park ward ratepayers would collectively see an increase of 1 1 .94 per cent (up by $66,546 to $557,532). This increase is also largely due to increased property prices. Taumarunui would see a drop of 1,44 per cent (down by $25,5 1 3 to $ 1 ,766, 1 85). Waimarino' s total rate take could have dropped by about $72,000 (-3 .94 per cent) , but councillors decided to put the money into the proposed roading network upgrading programme and keep the rates in the ward the same overall. The draft is now open for public comment and is to be adopted (with changes deemed necessary) at the end of June.
Comparison of revenue The following figures show the change (compared with 1993/94) expected from ■ revenue produced from: General Rates (including Land Value and Uniform Annual General Charge), Roading Rates (including Maintenance and Development) and the Ward Rate in the 1994/95 year: Waimarino Ward Ruatiti (+0.35%), Horopito (+0.50%), Rangataua (+2.00%), Pipiriki (+2.04%), Raetihi South (+2.43%), Raetihi (-8.53%), Ohakune Junction area (-0.22%), Ohakune township (-0.62%). Total value of percentage change in the Waimarino Ward: -0.27% National Park Ward National Park Rural/Raurimu (+25.84%), National Park Township (-15.43%) Waiouru Ward Waiouru +5.09%) The council advises that these changes bear no direct relationship to what ratepayers in each of the areas named may be committed when rates are set. Rather, they represent the change in the total rates gathered in each area. Different property valuation changes will alter the way the rates actually apply to various properties.
