Waimarino Golf

The good weather during the weekend saw a very good turn out of golfers. The Rangi waea T rophy was played for with Goldie Frazer and Grant Fountain on eleven-up the winners. In the individual competition Wayne Marsh on seven-up won the seniors followed by James Ennis on five-up and Grant Fountain on four-up. In the juniors John Mcllroy on five-up won with Joe Taoa second on four-up. Graham Lind, Daniel Munn and Bryce Henry were three up. Some of the club' s newest members are starting to do well in competitions, particularly Joe Taoa, J ackie Wi lliamson and Daniel Munn. On 14 & 15 May the club's major tournament will by played, with players coming from all over the country to do battle over 72 holes. Qualifying is on Saturday morning for section play then match play for three rounds. At the last count there were 90 entries with still more expected. The draw will be printed Friday. The course will be closed to normal play all weekend.
