Ruapehu training in communication

Council Eight Communicators recently took part in the prepared speech contest held at Ruapehu College. Judges were Gay Fahey, A.T.C.L. and L.T.C.L. F.T.C.L. in speech and drama. Jane Voon, B.A (Hons) Teacher, Ruapehu College. Jeremy Nash Barrister and Solicitor, Raetihi. Summing up, the judges stated they listened for a speech which captured the imagination and was a pleasure to listen to,. They said they were impressed with the opening of all the contestants who captured the

audience and developed to a climax and a good closing. Every contestant displayed ability and all kept within the time allowed. Winners: First; Geraldine Mildon, Palmerston North, whose topic was 'It is better to have tried and failed' Second; Carol Culling, Korero - 'Abuseofauthority' Third; Liz Nichols, Feilding - 'Oaths' Speech Contest chairman was Keitha Joumeaux and programme leader was Margaret Cornwall. The winner will go forward to the national contest in Hamilton in May and, if successful, will compete at the world convention in Pittsburgh in July. The mission of International Training in Communication is to be world leader in the promotion and provision of opportunities for quality training in communication and leadership skills.
