• Thumbs up to the Wellington Car Club for their promise to take precautions to avoid killing kiwis when they run their rallies (see letter, Jane Black). It seems pretty good odds that it was a rally car that did the damage (bad odds for the kiwi). Most people drive up the mountain road during daylight hours, and stick to the speed limit. On the night in question there were 33 cars driving in the darkness familiar to kiwis, with no speed limit. Facing up to the problem may not mean banning rally driving on the road - it may just mean changes in the way the rally is run. Now, what about hunters who use dogs? Surely this is a much greater and more frequent threat. Can we expect a similar dssurance from this group? It is probable that the majority of hunters would have no intention of harmlng kiwis, but do the responsible ones put pressure on their peers to toe the line? • Thumbs up also to Nita Wilde and her group for organising a great home-coming welcome for gold-medal winning skier, Patrick Cooper. Nice one Nita.
