Kiwi dismay

• On behalf of the Wellington Car Club (Inc) I wish to express our dismay and concern on learning of the recent deaths of two kiwis in the Ohakune area. As organisers of the Wellington Car Club Rally which has been run in the Ohakune area for the last six years we have worked hard to gain acceptance by the community and consider it a privilege to be able to use the roads in the area. We are very aware of the need to respect and preserve the environment for the benefit of all. I certainly hope a rally car did not cause the death of the kiwi on the Mountain Road and I can assure you we will be taking every precaution in the future to ensure that wildlife is not endangered by our sport.
