Board backs Christie Park plan

Funds for the Christie Park children' s playground project will get a $4000 boost from the council's Ohakune subdivision reserves contribution account. The Waimarino Community Board endorsed the spending of the money, on the condition that all parties

concerned with the project and other users of the park be brought together to discuss the final location of the equipment. The board discussed apetition from Clyde Street businesses which called for the retention of Jubilee Park, and the retention of the open

space at Christie Park which is used for touch rugby. "Before we put any money into Christie Park I'd like to see Jubilee Park put back together," said Ben Goddard. "Is it possible to fit the modular play ground in Jubilee Park?" "These people (the peti-

tioners) are looking for an assurance that Jubilee Park will remain." Area south engineer Don Sattler said no further equipment would be removed from Jubilee Park. He said the play equipment femoved was not up to safety standards. What remains is to be repainted in similar colours to the new equipment at Raetihi. There was some discussion on siting the new equipment on the Goldfinch Street frontage of Christie Park ratehr than on Conway St.. The board heard that there were concerns about the closeness of the stream, as was the case at Jubilee Park. Another project endorsed by the board was a $7000 lighting upgrading programme for Rochfort Park. The Ohakune Karioi Rugby and Sports Club said the

grounds were now being used by a wide variety of sports groups, not just rugby. The board decided to call for public submissions on how the rest of the Waimarino reserves account (now at $98,000) should be spent. They decided the list still on record was now out of date.
