Trust keeps on helping Waimarino sports

In three years the Waimarino Community Sports, Education and Development Trust (WCSE&DT) has given $22,811 in grants to individuals and groups within the Waimarino. In addition, prize money is paid out weekly, with recent $400 winners being Mark McCarthy, R Black, the Ohakune Squash Club and Glen Journeaux. Those receiving grants have been Phil Garland, Raetihi divers, Tim Coutts, National Park Gym Club, Raetihi Junior Soccer Club, Aaron McCann, Ohakune Squash Club, Waimarino Youth and Fitness Club, Allen Prince, Junior Badminton Club, Turoa Tumblers, Charmaine Oh, Waiouru Junior Softball Club, Ruapehu Junior Rugby Club, Patrick Cooper and the Raetihi Primary School PTA. The aims of the Trust are to promote the physical education and development of the residents of the Waimarino District by promoting and developing sporting and recreational participation; to promote the well-being of the Waimarino District by promoting increased participation in physical pursuits and sport; to facilitate, organise and arrange educational programmes to enhance the performance of sporting teams and individual sportspersons. The grants given have covered shooting, rugby, soccer, athletics, squash, diving, moto-crosse, gymnastics, skiing, badminton, softball and playground equipment. Recipients are encouraged to put back into the community some of their expertise through coaching, teaching, or organising demonstrations. Members of the trust are: mayor Garrick Workman (chairman), secretary Joe Paurini, treasurer Cathy MacLean, and committee members Neville Johnson, Clive Fremlin, Glyn Hubbard, Nicki Williams, Chrissie Simmens and Keitha Journeaux.
