Ice rink use surveyed
Parents of children attending Waimarino schools currently being surveyed on whether their families would use an ice skating rink. Over Labour Day Weekend 1992 a survey of visitors was conducted which indicated overwhelming support for an ice rink in Ohakune during the ski season. Ice rink convenor Dennis Beytagh said the rink is intended not just for use of visitors but as a recreational asset for locals to use year-round in all weathers. The current survey aims to estimate the number of local families who would use ice rink. Within the last two weeks every family with school-age children should have received a copy of the questionrraire. From the questionnaires so far returned indications are that there is strong local support for the ice rink. "However we do need more questionnaires to be returned to get a wider cross-section of community support for this ice rink," said Mr Beytagh. He said it has now been decided that Friday 1 8 March will be the final day for handing in the forms so they can be processed. "1 know of several people who have expressed a keen interest in this ice rink project but who haven't yet completed and returned these questionnaires," he said, "so if you want to participate in this survey to ensure the success of this project, please hand the completed questionnaires in to your local schools by Friday at the very latest."
