POLICE FILE

• No one was injured in a spectacular fire that utterly destroyed a car and the trailer it was towing, approximately 4km west of Ohakune on Tohunga Road yesterday. The Ohakune Volunteer Fire Brigade attended the incident which occurred shortly after 3pm. The dri ver of the vehicle, a Wellington man, told officials that the trailer went out of control after a tyre blew out. The car crashed heavily into a bank and immediately burstinto flames, setting surrounding grass alight. Tohunga Road was closed to traffic for around 40 minutes while the Ohakune Fire Brigade brought the fire under control. Fire officials worked quickly to douse burning grass that looked like spreading into neighbouring paddocks. Neither the driver of the vehicle nor passengers were injured in the incident. • Overnight Sunday 13 March, a red Honda Civic was entered and an attempt was made to steal it. The ignition was tampered with, but the offender failed to start the vehicle. • Two people were arrested on Friday morning after an ongoing domestic dispute at a property in the Ruatiti Valley. Those arrested face charges of assault, possession of an offensive weapon, theft and wilful damage. They will appear in the Ohakune District Court on Thursday 24 March.
