Mixed fortunes at bowls

Representatives of the Ohakune Womens' Bowling Club experienced mixed fortunes at the recent Champion of Championships held in Wanganui. The best result was achieved by Merrilyn George who, in the junior singles competition, finished runner-up, having lost her game by one point in the final end. In the rinks competition, Ohakune' s team of Audrey Nation (skip), Rita Kaiwhare (3), Christina McLeod (2) and Lesley Thompson (lead) finished in the last four teams from 18 starters, after playing four games. Audrey Nation also competed in the open singles, winning one game and losing two, thus being put out of contention. In the ' A' pairs, the team made it through to the last eight but lost their second game. The 'B' pairs failed to make it to the second round after being beaten in their first game.
