Defence plans new Waiouru hospital
Waiouru may be in line for a new hospital, if aproject planned by the Defence Department is apporoved The proposal includes the construction of a purpose- - built complex that will offer 24-hour care incorporating all of Waiouru' s emergency services in the long term. This includes the present military hospital, civilian doctor's surgery, dentist, community health services, birthing unit, and even the camp fire brigade. The present hospital' s operating theatre is no included in the proposal. The complex, if approved, would be sited at the main entrance to the camp, allowing easy access to the housing area. Officials will not know until later in the year whether some, or all of the proposal has been approved. The existing hospital facilities that date back to World War II will be retained for future expansion or overflow in the case of an emergency.
