Road works meetings

A series of public meetings is to be convened by Ruapehu District mayor Garrick Workman to discuss a district roads upgrading proposal. Mr Workman said in a press release that it had been made clear during the recent ward tours that a large number of ratepayers and residents believe or think that the council should be making more effort to improve the standard of its roading network in both

mral and urban areas. "The one major request made of Council was to extend seal on metal roads," said Mr Workman. Three public meetings are to be convened, one in the Raetihi RSA Hall on Monday 7 March, one in the National Park Hotel on 10 March and one at the T aumarunui Memorial Hall on 9 March. All meetings start at 7.30pm. A capital upgrading programme incorporating seal

extension and shape correction will be outlined for public consideration. Mr Workman said any work undertaken would have to be fully funded by ratepayers as Transit New Zealand will uot provide any financial assistance. "It is vitally important Council receives feedback from ratepayers and resi- - dents about this road upgrading programme," said Mr Workman.
