Pool competition

• This letter is for local young people. If the costestimate is reasonable, we intend to get a cover for the small pool at the Ohakune Swimming Baths. We need a plan drawn to scale for the proposed cover. Because the new syllabus emphasises the practical nature of mathematics we thought it might be a good idea to turn it into a competition for local pupils aged 11,12 and 1 3 . There will be a prize of $30 for the best entry. If two are equally good, then the prize money will be shared. The pool is 6.7 metres wide and 12 metres long. You will need to visit the pool to see if your cover design will include the concrete surround. Then there is the problem of the steps areas and the hand-rails. It is all-right for your parents to help you but the winner must prove to the judges, Don Sattler and Robert Horne, that they understand the plan and can explain it without parental assistance. Send your entry with your name, age and school to Don Sattler, Ruapehu District Council, 1 5 Miro Street, Ohakune by Tuesday 22 February 1994. All the best. Kia ti!.
