Members of the Wanganui Kiwi Masters Hockey Team could be forgiven for appearing to have been less

than proficient with a golf club at the Waimarino Golf Club on Saturday. The reps swapped their hockey sticks for less familiar golfing paraphenalia at the weekend's fund-rais-ing 'bashers' tournament, to aid their up-coming trip to the Australian Masters Games, this year in Alice Springs. The 16-strong team thaf boasts three talented Waimarino players will be accompanied by 1 0 supporters when they journey to Australia in October. The first two days of the seven day itinerary are devoted solely to acclimitising to the Northern Territory ' s 40-45 degrees celcius temperatures. Nine members of the team are veteran competitors, having represented the region at last year's Masters Games where the team was placed 5th. Individuals from the party have also registered for competition in a variety of other sports represented at this year's Games.
