Singaporeans soldiering at Waiouru
Singapore and New Zealand joined cultures in Waiouru this week for a month's military manoeuvres within the Army Training Group. The 164-strong Singapore combat team will train with personnel from the Queen Alexandra Mounted Rifles, the
New Zealand Army's Regular armoured unit. Personnel of the 41 Singapore Armoured Regiment (41 SAR) will be instructed in the use of NZ Army armoured vehicles and infantry weapons, with the unit taking part in an exercise involving live rounds further into the training. The visit will culminate with Exercise Temasek Wanderer which will give personnel the opportunity to compare procedures and training under combat conditions. A reciprocal exercise is planned for later in the year, with around 50 Queen Alexandra Mounted Rifles soldiers travelling to Singapore for similar training.
