Rovers tour to US tops on event calendar

A sporting trip planned three years ago has finally reached fruitition for the Ruapehu Rovers who leave the region on Thursday 10 February bound for the northern United States and Canada. The 22-strong contingent of 1 8 players and four supporters will spend the first half of their tour in competition. The team plays two matches in Vancouver, Canada, another in Seattle, Washington and a final match in Portland, Oregon. With the competition behind them the group fly to Reno for a well-earned rest and spend the remainder of their trip visiting Southern Californian cities. From this point the majority of team members will go their separate ways for extended stays. Some serious training has taken place in preparation for the trip, with the Rovers playing a final game against exRovers team members, at Taihape on 7 February. Players from Palmerston North, Taihape and the Waimarino make up the team. Tracksuits, jerseys, accommodation and transfers are covered in the tour's cost of $3500.
