Raetihi school news
By Deborah Donaldson and Eileen Voon Raetihi School took off for their 'Flight Week' last week with a 'Balloon Blast Off . The children were given helium balloons to set off with acard attached. The cards enclosed their names and addresses in the hope that the balloons would be found in far off places. The children were delighted when they found out people were phoning from north of Tokoroa, Kuratau, Taupo and the back regions of Raetihi. Following this experiment, the rest of the week was crammed with fun-filled flight activities,. starting with the junior syndicate experimenting with gravity and activities constructing darts, kites and helicopters. The middle syndicate constructed twisters, parachutes, jets and gliders during maths, kites and butterfly stain-glass windows. The senior syndicate did things at a different level. They constructed hot-air balloons although they have not yet let them off, due to bad weather. They made kites and other small experiments in class while doing a project on flight. All the children in the school enjoyed a great week of fun flight activities and some may carry on with this pastime.
