Canadian brings skills to Ruapehu
Canadian Russ Karp intends to take the term 'total immersion' literally for the next six months while on a guiding exchange programme with Plateau Outdoor Adventure Guides. Russ, a licensed raft guide in British Columbia, has plenty of valuable experience as a guide to offer his Kiwi counterparts, but intends to glean as much from his New Zealand exchange as possible. While he maintains the Ruapehu region's topography is much like his part of Canada, the local rivers and even the style of rafting used here by Plateau Guides, compared to BC's Kumsheen Raft Adventures, is vastly different. Coming from the employment of one of Western Canada' s largest rafting companys, to that of Plateau Outdoor Adventure Guides in the tiny settlement of Raurimu, required no small adjustment on his part. Kuss is excited about the prospect of experiencing the many raftable rivers in the Ruapehu re-
gion and says that he is ( keen to attempt kayaking i nearby Tawhai Falls - one of the company' s specialty trips. Plateau Outdoor
Adventure Guides owneroperator Colin Parker will make the trip to BC, Canada mid next year to begin his six month exchange.
