CLUB NEWS

Kaetim Cosmopolitan Club □ In a nail-biting finish to the club's annual 8-ball championships on Sunday the winner was, for the second year in succession, Richard Carmichael. Runner up: Allan Zohs. Winner of the plate in this competition which attracted 24 entrants, was Brad Oliver who claimed victory over Raymond Brown who was, according to our informant, a well beaten and broken man! □ Next Saturday the Club is hosting its near neighbour in Seddon Street, the Waimarino (RSA) club for their annual bowls competition. A champagne lunch will be provided before battle commences. □ On Saturday 27 November the club has organised a bus to take members and their partners to attend the Englebert Humperdink concert in Auckland.

Ohakune Club □ The final rounds of the DB and Lion sponsored 'Sportsperson of the Club' tournament was held on Sunday. Each player, having qualified in the earlier rounds (see previous Bulletins ) had to play a round robin involving darts (DB), 8ball and snooker (Lion). The ultimate overall winner of the 'Sportsperson of the Club' title was Bob Cornwell (who won a DB tracksuit), runner up John Schrier (DB tee-shirt). - Winner of the plate was Barry Reid, runner up Bob 'Split-pin' Wilcox. In the absence of a wooden spoon, Wai Brown was presented with a plastic fork. □ A farewell function will be held at the club tomorrow (Wednesday) night starting at 7pm for one of its longest serving members, 'Curly' Jenkins who is leaving Ohakune this Friday. Waiouru RSA □ Last Tuesday's dart night was played with seven drawn pairs. The results are as follows: 501 flying start winner Bruce C and Brian D. Highest finish Bruce C (96). Brian D. □ The club's pool tournament was played on Sunday. The mixed doubles were won by Granny and Popey. The ladies doubles were won by Kataraina and Karen. Mens doubles: Willy and Garth. Ladies singles: Kataraina; Mens singles: Garth □ To mark the 75th anniversary of Armistice Day a tree was planted at the entrance to the club last Friday by life member Laurie Prentice. Waimarino (RSA) □ Visitors from the Ngamotu Tavern in Taranaki were beaten 2218 by their hosts when they played their darts tournament last Saturday. □ Club members will be hosted by their neighbouring 'Cossie' club next Saturday to compete for their annual bowls tournament. □ The childrens' Christmas party is due to be held on Saturday 4 December and members are reminded that they must register their youngsters by Saturday 27 November. Following the childrens' party an adult social will be held in the clubrooms.
