Meeting in positive vein
More than 40 people, the majority parents, attended last week's meeting called by former teacher June Bates, to discuss concerns about the curriculum currently in place at Ohakune Primary School. Items listed on the agenda for discussion included vertical grouping, Maori content in classrooms and homework. Chairing the meeting was Captain Richard Taylor, director of the Queen Elizabeth II War Memorial Museum and member of the Army Education Corp. Mr Taylor initially cau-
tioned the meeting, requesting that personalities be "left out". He also suggested that notice of the meeting was worded in such a fashion that the opinion of those in attendance may not have been completely indicative of all parents in the community. The meeting was conducted for the greater part in a positive vein, with those in attendance voting to forward a list of concerns to next week's meeting of Ohakune Primary School's Board of Trustees, for their consideration^
A further motion was carried (three people in attendance abstained from voting) to have information on vertical grouping, in relation to Ohakune Primary School, made available
for perusal by those in attendance at the earliest opportunity. The vertical grouping system was described as a "localised problem".
