Delivery of the 1994 Wanganui Telephone Directory and Yellow Pages begins in the Waimarino this week. Delivery of the directory, which can be used immediately, should be completed by 15 November. Plastic bags will protect the books and Telecom has asked its contractors - community groups and local individuals - not to deliver in the rain. Residential customers with queries about. the new directory should contact Telecom' s customer service staff by calling 123, while businesses should call Telecom' s business customer ser-

vice number, 126. A slight change has been made to the typeface used in the Wanganui directory this year, providing two significant benefits. Not only has the new typeface reduced the number of pages by around 10 per cent, but it is also easier to read. While there is little change to the actual size of the type, the new print is more open, preventing misreading of numbers like 6 and 8, which can look similar at first glance. Civil Defence advice on preparing for natural disasters is in a new location in this year's directory. The advice now ap-

pears on the inside front cover of the Yellow Pages, rather than as a separate card inserted into the middle of the directory. The emergency information page, which is subsidised by Telecom Directories, was moved to save Civil Defence money -and also reduce the volume of paper previously needed to produce the separate card. The cover of the 1994 Wanganui Teleohone Directory teatures a work by local artist George Raymond, who won the Telecom Regional Ari Award from 120 entries.
