Labour Rangitikei Andrew Schmidt

I will be one of the youngest Labour candidates at this year's election and as such I represent my party' s future. My background has presented me with many challenges. Coming from a large family of eleven, I know what it's like for families to struggle within a very limited income. I financed my studies by working. In my last full-time year at Massey I worked as a chartered accountant whilst studying at night. It was hardgoing, but I am now proud of my achievements. My stand in Rangitikei is based on

that background. People I should be able to get ahead regardless of their socio-economic back- fl ground. I'm fighting to pro- ■ tect and enhance, the opportunities of people M who are struggling but B want to create some- I thing better for themselves. Without that opportunity, New m Zealand will be a country without hope and hope is now desperately I needed in these hard- ■ times. In terms of policy, M obviously my priority I is to protect the public' s I access to health and education. V I am also proud of M Labour' s pay equity legislation that was discarded so quickly by National and I have always believed that small H business rather that Think Bigs' are our best chance for job growth.
