Changing of the guard at law

By

Shelly

Shearsby

Godfrey Harvey, barrister, solicitor and notary public handed over his practice to Jeremy Nash LLB on Friday 1 October 1993. "I am in my 40th year of practice in Raetihi and Ohakune and I am sad indeed that the time has come when I must face reality and move over to allow a younger man to carry on," Mr Harvey said. Mr Harvey 's career includes seven years on the New Zealand Law Practitioners' Disciplinary Tribunal, vice president of the New Zealand Law Society and president of the Wanganui and District Law Society. Mr Harvey served 1 8 years on the Wanganui Hospital Board, is a life member of the Waimarino Golf Club and a member of the Eagles Golfing Society. He is a charter member of the Raetihi/Ohakune Rotary Club and enjoys playing bowls. Mr Harvey and his wife Ellen have mo ved to Palmerston North to be closer to their son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Mr Harvey will remain as a consultant for the law firm.

"Please give Mr Nash your support," asks Mr Harvey, "I am anxious to see the Waimarino continue to be serviced by a practice established close to 90 years ago". "I have been most fortunate in that I will be handing over to a very experienced lawyer who will be able to offer you legal services of high quality," Mr Harvey said. Rural family Jeremy Nash has practised in Taupo for the last 25 years. For the past 15 years he and his wife Sue have lived in the country at Broadlands on the way to Rotorua. Mr and Mrs Nash prefer the closer supportive links in rural communities and are looking forward to living in the Waimarino. Mr Nash is an old-fashioned, cautious family solicitor, a style he is proud of, and will be leaning heavily on Mr Harvey' s tremendous knowledge of the Waimarino district to ensure he can appreciate the personalities of the people. Mr and Mrs Nash's leisure interests include skiing, fishing, history and the outdoors. Mr Nash has farmed for some 1 6 years so he has a good knowledge of farming and its changes of fortune. He is also a very firm advocate of farm forestry and he is experienced in forestry law (including the Forest Rights Registration Act). His wife Sue is a trained Karitane nurse but has more recently been an insurance broker.
