An invitation to the blues
Kokomo Blues is an acoustic blues trio which aims to capture the authentic rural sounds of bluesmen such as Robert Johnson and MississippiFred McDowell, and bring an earthy traditional flavour to works by contemporary blues song writers. Derek Jacombs emigrated from England in 1 982 and has since played and recorded with many New Zealand artists including Richie Pickett, Midge Marsden andTom Sharplin. He was a founding member of Waikato Battle of Bands
winners 'Hard to Handle'. Hissong 'Don'tworry 'bout me', which featured on a Bay of Plenty compilation album, has received extensive airplay. His desire to form a purely blues combo was renewed by the success of a performance with blues harpist Grant Bullot at the Tauranga National Jazz Festival and finally realised when bassman brother Roger became available. Kokomo Blues are playing at Schnapps Hotel, National Park on Thursday 7 October and Saturday 9 October.
