New club pricing aims for more members
At its regular monthly meeting last week, the Ohakune Club committee confirmed that it would
introduce a members -only coupon which will enable members to avoid the increase in beer prices that
will apply from tomorrow (1 September). Casual purchases of liquor (beer only at this
stage) by members who have not purchased a coupon and those made by visitors from other
clubs will from tomorrow pay more (20 cents per handle and 40 cents per jug).
Locals who would like to use the club's facilities (pool and snooker tables, darts, indoor bowls etc) will find that their annual membership subscriptions ($40.50 for individuals, $67.50 for couples and $20.25 for senior citizens and RSA members) will soon be covered over the year by their discounted purchases. In addition a 'lucky membership draw' is held every Friday evening with a minimum prize of $200 being paid to any fully paid up member who is in the Club at the time and can produce his or her current membership card. If the prize money is not claimed in the first draw of the evening two more are held with the amount 'jack-potting' by $10 each time ... currently the 'lucky membership draw' stands at $360 having remained unclaimed for the past six weeks.
"With a membership of just over 260, the chances of winning this draw are a lot better than Lotto," said Club president Ken George, "but you have to be a fully paid-up member and you have to be in the Club with your membership card," he said.
