The Ruapehu boys team played East Athletic Raiders in Ohakune on Saturday. It was the fourth time the two sides had met this year with Raiders winning convincingly on all three previous occasions. Ruapehu were keen to beat them as they had already gained enough points to assure them of the youth trophy for 1993. Ruapehu played ex-student Glen Journeaux up front and coach John Laurenson in defence to help strengthen the side for what was a non-league game. The half-time scoreline of 0-0 could easily have been in Ruapehu's favour with several good opportunities missed. Raiders eventually scored the first goal in the sec-ond-half and Ruapehu scored shortly after. Avinesh Sharma scored one back for Ruapehu who were still well in the game. Butting against the wind in the sec-ond-half however seemed to be too much for Ruapehu who whilst trying to push forward to score left too many gaps. Raiders were able to score three further eoals to Ruapehu's one. The final score was 5-2.
