Fly-over to seek power hot-spots

King Country Energy is carrying out an aerial infra-red survey of Taumarunui, Turangi and Ohakune during the school holidays. Experience from similar surveys overseas has shown that up to 60 per cent of energy used for heating is wasted due to heat loss. "The infra-red film will graphically illustrate heat loss from buildings. Our customers will be invited to view the film and identify areas where they can save money by taking a few simple steps," explained Bruce

Clow, whose brief as marketing supervisor is to promote energy efficiency. The infra-red equipment will also be used to photograph the company's major supply lines in an effort to identify 'hot spots' which indicate maintenance is required.

The program has received the full endorsement of New Zealand Forest and Bird Society. "This proposal is a major and innovative step by a power company towards reducing electricity consumption," said their spokes-person Mr Keith Chapple.
